Moving Kids Back to College

Moving Kids Back to College

I am in the middle of moving my two daughters and two bonus daughters back to college. I have already moved one to the University of Iowa. I am currently in Arizona with my youngest. From here I go to Miami University in Ohio and then St. Louis University. Four girls - four colleges - four states!

9-tier shoe rack, home organization

Check out this starogegc 9 Tier Shoe Rack!

I’ll be honest, I used Gracie’s closet as a trial for this shoe organizer. I have been eyeing this for an upcoming client and will definitely be using this again!

This shoe rack is great because you can build it to fit your needs. Here, I made the stacks just tall enough to fit under Gracie’s hanging clothes. For my upcoming client, I am planning on stacking them two high on the top shelf of her closet.

The Amazon link above has a video to show you how to assemble the shoe rack. I will say, this is kind of a pain to put together. Also, I’m not sure I would  stack them 9 high unless they were in a corner for extra support.

I feel like the price point and flexibility of creating the size and shape to fit your space make this a great addition to any closet!

Shopping on Facebook Marketplace

All of the girls are moving into apartments this year and we were in need of a lot of furniture. We found most of their furniture on Facebook Marketplace. If you have never shopped Marketplace here are some tips to make your buying experience a little easier:

  1. If there is a specific item you are looking for, search for that item daily. New items are added all day, every day.

  2. If you find an item you are interested in, do not send the default Marketplace message, send the seller a personalized message:

Hi (seller’s name)! I love the (item) and am interested. Is it still available?

  3. Consider expanding your search area if you are not finding what you are looking for.

  4. Look through all of the photos and read the entire description before asking the seller a question. I have sold many items on Marketplace and it is frustrating when someone messages asking for measurements when I already put the information in the listing.

  5. Ask the seller how they prefer payment. If paying with cash, make sure you have exact change.

  6. Schedule a time to meet the seller. Be respectful of the seller’s time. Message them when you are headed their way with an expected time of arrival. If you change your mind, or need to reschedule, communicate that with the seller. Do not be a no show!

  7. When you arrive to pick up the item, look at it closely to make sure it meets your expectations. Do not feel pressure to buy if you do not like the item once you see it in person.

Here is a list of everything we purchased from Facebook Marketplace this summer:

  • Mid Century dresser and full bed frame

  • Queen platform canopy bed frame

  • Above the toilet shelf

  • Desk

  • Wine glasses

  • Kitchen island

  • Bar stools

  • Ikea 8 cubby shelf

  • Butcher block top (to put on top of the cubby unit as a kitchen island)

  • Heavy duty plastic storage shelf

  • Go-go boots

  • Doc Martin boots

  • New Balance sneakers

  • Outdoor bistro set

I had not even realized how long the list was until I typed it all out here! I understand that not everyone wants to take the time to shop Facebook Marketplace, but I think you should give it a try. I find the hunt to be a lot of fun!
