Simplify Your Holiday Décor: Tips for a Joyful (and Organized!) Season

It’s that time of year again, the holiday boxes are coming out, and the twinkle lights are ready to shine!

Be honest for a second: how many bins or boxes of Christmas decorations do you have? And how many of those items actually make it out of the box and onto display each year?

If you’re like most people, you probably have a few decorations that never seem to make the cut but still get packed away every January. This year, I want to encourage you to pause while you’re decorating and take a closer look at what’s staying behind in those bins.

Once your home is beautifully decorated, take a peek at what’s left over and ask yourself:

  1. Why am I holding onto this?

  2. Will I actually use this in the future?

  3. Could someone else enjoy this in their home instead?

It’s completely okay to let go of the things you no longer love, even if they’ve been part of your holiday collection for years. Sentimental items can be especially tricky, but releasing what no longer brings you joy creates more space (physically and emotionally!) for the things that do.

And trust me, you’ll be thanking yourself when it’s time to pack everything away after the holidays.

DON’T WAIT TO DONATE

Once you’ve finished decorating and decided what you’re ready to part with, go ahead and donate those unused items now. Donation centers are still accepting holiday décor in November and December, but come January, they have no use for Christmas decorations.

A little effort now can make next year’s decorating easier and more enjoyable. You’ll have fewer boxes to unpack, less decision fatigue, and a home filled only with the decorations you truly love.

Here’s to a simpler, more joyful holiday season, one where every item you display brings you happiness and every bin you store has a purpose.
